We all have roots - in a place, in a culture and in the natural environment that we depend on. At the Femundsmarka and Gutulia National Parks Visitor Center, guests explore the ancient roots of the primeval forests and learn about our role in preserving and sustaining our environment.

“Roots” is an immersive and tactile exhibition that invites visitors to explore the landscapes and species of the region. The exhibition highlights themes of nature, biodiversity, and sustainability, encouraging awareness and curiosity about the delicate balance of the ecosystems that surround us.

At the heart of the space stands a striking, real tree – the visual and conceptual centrepiece of the exhibition. From its base, sculptural “roots” extend across the floor and rise into the room, guiding visitors through stories of local history, old-growth forests, South Sámi reindeer herding, wildlife, and climate diversity.

The experience is designed to feel organic and hands-on rather than digital, creating a deeper, sensory connection to the natural world.
