The Axel Ebbes Art Hall introduces the multidisciplinary artist Axel Ebbe (1868–1941) — poet, sculptor, illustrator, inventor—whose work blends craftsmanship, humour, and a strong connection to the landscapes of southern Sweden. Originally opened in 1935, the Art Hall now gains a contemporary extension that expands its creative possibilities and repositions Ebbe’s legacy for today’s visitors.
The narrative places visitors in the environment Ebbe envisioned: a bright, garden-like setting where sculptures, drawings, and personal items appear in various stages of creation.
A reflective ”pond”, integrated greenery, shifting light, and carefully crafted pedestals create a dialogue between nature and art. Subtle, playful details reference Ebbe’s wit and invite discovery, while the entrance hall—as an artist’s studio—provides an intimate introduction to his world. Close collaboration with horticultural and conservation experts ensures that the living elements, light and artworks coexist sustainably.
Expology has led the exhibition design, project management, and production for the newly inaugurated extension of the Axel Ebbes Art Hall, while also supporting the development of the exhibition content. The result is a cohesive spatial concept that responds both to the historic building and to the museum’s ambition to create a dynamic cultural destination.
