Our first pick from Intensivdagarna 2012 was the ambitious 'Mix Max Brasil' exhibition at Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam. Designer and curator Aby Choen told us how they were inspired by performing arts and storytelling to create an experience where children engage in Brazilian culture, art and history. We were also impressed with Hannie Chia and Hatuey Ramos Fermins' project 'Teen Council' at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, a program designed to make contemporary art and culture accessible to urban youth.
Overall, it was inspiring to see so much being done to involve children and young people at museums and art environments around the world. From inviting them to experience new worlds, feelings and thoughts; enjoy a playful and uninhibited relationship with art; to creating pedagogic and imaginative exhibitions arenas designed specifically for young people. The Brandts Gallery in Odense, Denmark was one of the best examples of an initiator of such an exhibition - a yearly arranged exhibition with focus on sensory experience of the artworks produced by Marianne Ager.
